Signature Theatre has announced full casting for its production of Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein II’s classic 1927 musical Show Boat, to play November 10-January 17. Eric Schaeffer will direct.

The cast will include Will Gartshore as Gaylord Ravenal, Stephanie Waters as Magnolia, Harry Winter as Cap’n Andy, Kimberly Schraf as Parthy, Terry Burrell as Julie, Jim Newman as Steve, VaShawn McIlwain as Joe, Delores King Williams as Queenie, Bobby Smith as Frank, and Sandy Bainum as Ellie, while the role of Young Kim will be played by Rachel Boyd and Anna Nowalk at alternating performances.

The ensemble includes Mardee Bennett, Yolanda Denise Bryant, Matt Conner, Susan Derry, Helen Hedman, Sam Ludwig, Sean Maurice Lynch, Kevin McAllister, Aaron Reeder, J. Fred Shiffman, Chris Sizemore, Tiffany Wharton, and Hannah Willman.

Spanning the years 1880 to 1927, Show Boat is a sweeping tale of enduring love and devastating hatred, illuminating the cruelty of prejudice — and the beauty of romance. This intimate new staging in the 276-seat MAX Theatre will feature a revised script — incorporating material from the original 1927 version, the 1946 revival, and the 2005 Berlin Opera version — and new orchestrations by Jonathan Tunick. The production will also restore the song “Mis’ry’s Comin’ Round” which was cut after the very first performance.

The creative team will include choreographer Karma Camp, set designer James Kronzer, costume designer Kathleen Geldard, lighting designer Mark Lanks, sound designer Matt Rowe, and music director Jon Kalbfleisch.
