Tony winner Karen Ziemba begins performances in Gypsy tonight at the Sharon Playhouse.

The show follows Rose, the mother of Gypsy Rose Lee, the famous striptease artist. Through her efforts to raise two daughters to perform onstage, Rose's name has become synonymous with the zealous stage mother. Loosely based on the memoirs of Gypsy Rose Lee herself, the show takes an affectionate look at the hardships of show business life and includes songs that have become popular standards, such as "Small World," "Everything's Coming up Roses," "You'll Never Get Away From Me," and "Let Me Entertain You."

The iconic musical features music by Jule Styne, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, and a book by Arthur Laurents. Richard Stafford directs and choreographs, with musical direction by Joshua Zecher-Ross. Starring in the show is Tony Award winner Karen Ziemba as Rose, alongside Rufus Collins as Herbie, Kyra Kennedy as Louise, Julia Hemp as June, Alex Dorf as Tulsa, Sarah Cline as Tessie Tura, Carly Sakolove as Mazeppa, Emily Soell as Electra/Miss Cratchitt, Serafina Fauci as Baby June, Olivia Santiago as Baby Louise, Tom Schindler as Pop, David Fanning as Uncle Jocko, Kringelein, John Champion as Weber/Goldstone, and David Cadwell as Cigar.

The creative team includes Jack Mehler (set and lighting design), Michelle Humphrey (costume design), Emma Wilk (sound design), and E. Sara Barnes (stage manager).

Performances will run through July 3.
