Broadway veteran Chasten Harmon will star as Ti Moune in the Marriott Theatre’s staging of Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty’s musical, Once On This Island, to play June 30-August 29, with an opening on July 7. Jeff Award winner David H. Bell will direct and choreograph the production.

This musical love story is set in the Caribbean Islands, and is based on the novel My Love, My Love by Rosa Guy and the classic fairy tale The Little Mermaid. It tells the story of Ti Moune, a poor peasant girl who falls in love with an upper-class gentleman. The island gods of Love, Earth, Water, and Death try to manipulate the young lovers on a fateful journey that tests the strength of their love.

The cast will also include Michael James Leslie as Tonton, Joslyn Jones as Mama Euralie, Brandon Koller as Daniel, Jesse Means as Papa Ge, Melody Betts as Asaka, Byron Glen Willis as Agwe, Melinda Wakefield Albery as Erzulie, Max Kumangai as Armand, Caitlainne Rose Gurreri as Andrea, with ensemble members Alysha Deslorieux, Melvin Brandon Logan, Donica Lynn and Nya as Little Ti Moune.

The production will feature musical direction by Dr. Ryan Nelson, sound design by Robert E. Gilmartin, costume design by Nancy Missimi, set design by Thomas M. Ryan, and lighting design by Diane Williams. Patti Garwood will conduct the Marriott Theatre orchestra.

Harmon is currently starring in the GAYFEST NYC production of the musical, This One Girl’s Story. She appeared in the Tony-winning Broadway revival of Hair as a swing and as the understudy for the role of Dionne.
