Michael Shannon to Join Jessica Lange on Broadway in Long Day's Journey Into Night

Academy Award nominee Michael Shannon (Boardwalk Empire) will return to Broadway next spring in Roundabout Theatre Company's revival of Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Long Day’s Journey Into Night. The production, part of Roundabout's 50th anniversary season, will begin previews March 31, 2016, with opening night set for April 19, 2016, at the American Airlines Theatre.
Jonathan Kent directs the semiautobiographical four-act drama, which is widely considered both O'Neill's magnum opus and one of the best plays of the 20th century. Shannon, last seen on the New York stage in The Killer, will take on the role of Jim Tyrone, Jr., alongside Oscar and Emmy winner Jessica Lange (American Horror Story) as Mary Tyrone, Golden Globe winner Gabriel Byrne (In Treatment) as James Tyrone, and Tony winner John Gallagher Jr. (The Newsroom) as Edmund. Casting for the role of Cathleen will be announced in the coming months.
Shannon's theatrical credits include Grace, Mistakes Were Made, Our Town, Killer Joe, and Uncle Vanya, among others. He received an Oscar nomination for his performance in the film Revolutionary Road.
Roundabout presents Long Day's Journey Into Night in association with Ryan Murphy, the producer of TV's Glee and American Horror Story.
