The writing team for the long-gestating stage adaptation of the classic 1987 film The Princess Bride has finally been announced. According to a spokesperson for Disney Theatrical Productions, David Yazbek (The Band's Visit) will write the score, and Rick Elice (Jersey Boys) and Bob Martin (The Prom) will write the book.

Additional creative team members and a production timetable have yet to be announced.

Adapted by William Goldman from his 1973 novel, The Princess Bride follows the adventure of Westley to save his childhood love, Buttercup, after she's kidnapped. The film version, directed by Rob Reiner, starred Cary Elwes, Robin Wright, Chris Sarandon, Christopher Guest, Mandy Patinkin, Wallace Shawn, Billy Crystal, Carol Kane, and André the Giant.

The Princess Bride had previously been developed as a stage musical by Goldman and Tony Award-winning composer and lyricist Adam Guettel, but the project was abandoned after a reported rights' dispute between the two writers.
