Date Set for 89th Annual Drama League Awards

The Drama League has announced that the 89th Annual Drama League Awards will be held on Friday, May 19, 2023, at the Ziegfeld Ballroom, with the annual luncheon ceremony beginning at noon.

The 2022 ceremony introduced the Outstanding Direction of a Play (Kate Whoriskey for Clyde's) and Outstanding Direction of a Musical (Marianne Elliott for Company) awards categories. Honorees also included The Music Man's Hugh Jackman (Distinguished Achievement in Musical Theater Award) and Mr. Saturday Night's Billy Crystal (Contribution to the Theater Award).

The 2023 ceremony will present awards in the following categories: Distinguished Performance Award, Outstanding Production of a Play, Outstanding Production of a Musical, Outstanding Revival of a Play, Outstanding Revival of a Musical, Outstanding Direction of a Play, Outstanding Direction of a Musical, Founders Award for Excellence in Directing, Distinguished Achievement in Musical Theater, Contribution to the Theater Award, and The Gratitude Award.

Nominations for the 2022-23 Broadway and off-Broadway season will be announced on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at 11am (location TBD). Productions will need to have been in previews between April 21, 2022 and April 23, 2023 to be eligible for this season's Drama League Awards.
