Come From Away Extends Pre-Broadway Run
The new musical adds performances to its Ford's Theatre engagement.
Due to popular demand, the pre-Broadway engagement of the new musical Come From Away at Washington, D.C.'s Ford's Theatre has extended its run through October 16 beyond its originally announced closing date of October 9.
Following the run at Ford's Theatre, the production will travel to Gander, Newfoundland, for two special benefit concert performances on October 29. The show will then continue on to Toronto's Royal Alexandra Theatre, where it will play from November 15-January 8, 2017. Broadway performances will begin February 18, 2017, with an opening night set for March 12, 2017, at a Shubert Theatre to be announced.
Featuring a book, music, and lyrics by Irene Sankoff and David Hein, Come From Away is directed by Tony nominee Christopher Ashley (Memphis) and choreographed by Tony nominee Kelly Devine (Rocky). Set against the backdrop of the tragic events of September 11, 2001, the show follows what happens when 38 planes and 6,579 passengers were forced to land in Gander, Newfoundland, doubling the population of "one small town on the edge of the world."
The cast, many of whom appeared in the 2015 La Jolla Playhouse and Seattle Repertory Theatre productions of the musical, includes Chad Kimball (Memphis), Jenn Colella (If/Then), Kendra Kassebaum (Wicked), Geno Carr (Allegiance), Joel Hatch (Annie), Rodney Hicks (The Scottsboro Boys), Alyssa Wilmoth Keegan (Cat on a Hot Tin Roof), Lee MacDougall (The Wizard of Oz), Caesar Samayoa (Sister Act), Q. Smith (Mary Poppins), Sharon Wheatley (Avenue Q), and Astrid Van Wieren (Mamma Mia!).
