Head Over Heels, Dear Evan Hansen, King Kong to Perform at Thanksgiving Parade
The Broadway musicals will appear on the CBS broadcast of the annual Thanksgiving festivities.
The Broadway casts of Dear Evan Hansen, King Kong, and Head Over Heels have been announced to perform at the 92nd annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, to be broadcast live on CBS from New York City beginning at 9am EST on Thursday, November 22.
Dear Evan Hansen, the 2017 Tony-winning Best Musical, features a Tony-winning score by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, and a Tony-winning book by Steven Levenson. The story is described as follows: "A letter that was never meant to be seen, a lie that was never meant to be told, a life he never dreamed he could have. Evan Hansen is about to get the one thing he's always wanted: a chance to finally fit in."
King Kong, which opened at the Broadway Theatre on November 8, follows a young actor, Ann Darrow (Christiani Pitts), and a maverick filmmaker, Carl Denham (Eric William Morris), as they voyage from the bustling streets of 1930s New York to an uncharted island to capture the world's greatest wonder. At the center of this 21st-century reimagining is a 20-foot-tall, 2,000-pound gorilla brought to life by a team of artists and technicians, blending robotics, puppetry, and stagecraft.
Head Over Heels, a new Broadway musical featuring the songs of the Go-Go's, opened at the Hudson Theatre on July 26. Based on Sir Philip Sidney's The Arcadia, the show is described as "an unpredictable, Elizabethan romp about a royal family that must prevent an oracle's prophecy of doom. In order to save their beloved kingdom, the family embarks on an extravagant journey wrought with mistaken identities, jealous lovers, sexual awakening, scandal and self-discovery, where everything (and everyone) is not quite what it seems."
Kevin Frazier and correspondent Keltie Knight of Entertainment Tonight will host the three-hour television special featuring portions of the Thanksgiving Day Parade.
