Tony nominee Andrew Rannells (The Book of Mormon) will assume the role of King George in Hamilton for a limited engagement, from October 27-November 29. Rannells takes over for original Broadway cast member Jonathan Groff, who departs the production for a pre-negotiated one-month leave to film the movie version of HBO's Looking. Groff returns to the show on December 1.

Rannells last appeared on Broadway as Hedwig in Hedwig and the Angry Inch. For his work as Elder Price in The Book of Mormon, Rannells received Tony, Drama Desk, and Drama League Award nominations. He returns this year for the fifth season on the HBO series Girls.

Hamilton, featuring book and score by Lin-Manuel Miranda and direction by Thomas Kail, began performances at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on July 13, with opening night on August 6. Inspired Ron Chernow's biography Alexander Hamilton, the musical explores the life of the American Founding Father. It played an acclaimed, Drama Desk Award-winning run at the Public Theater earlier this year.
