Tony Award nominee Kate Baldwin and Tony Award-winning composer Sheldon Harnick performed at Arena Stage’s Golden Gala: A Glittering Evening of American Musical Theater on Monday, March 26 at the Mead Center for American Theater. Proceeds from the event will benefit Arena Stage’s Community Engagement programs.
D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities Chair Judith Terra and Executive Director Lionell Thomas served a proclamation that March 26, 2012 is Arena Stage Community Engagement Day. Artistic Director Molly Smith presented American Voice Awards to senators Thad Cochran and Patrick Leahy for their advocacy in the arts. The event was chaired by WUSA9 news anchor and Arena Stage board member JC Hayward.
As previously reported, Baldwin will play Marian in Arena Stage’s upcoming production of The Music Man. Her stage credits include Finian’s Rainbow, Wonderful Town. She Loves Me, and Thoroughly Modern Millie. Harnick’s credits include Fiorello, Fiddler on the Roof, She Loves Me, and The Apple Tree.
