The Great American Revue Exhibit to Open April 19

The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts (LPA) will open The Great American Revue on April 19. The show will remain on view through July 27.

In the exhibit, the LPA will showcase the library’s holdings in popular theater from 1900-1938, providing visitors with access to original designs, scripts, scores, recordings, and telegrams that document the on and off-stage worlds of George White’s Scandals,The Ziegfeld Follies, The Passing Shows, and their rival series.

Among the artists whose work will be highlighted in the show are Irving Berlin, Richard Rodgers, George Gershwin, Yip Harburg, Elsie Janis, Agnes Morgan, Lily Hyland, and Arthur Schwartz, among others. In addition, designers such as Joseph Urban, Aline Bernstein, O’Kane Conwell, Alice O’Neill, James Reynolds, and the Hippodrome studio will be showcased.
