Reed Birney, Nick Spangler and More to Join Laura Osnes, Brooke Shields for Sound of Music at Carnegie Hall

Complete casting has been announced for Carnegie Hall‘s presentation of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music, to be presented at 8pm on Tuesday, April 24. Gary Griffin will direct this concert adaptation by David Ives.

As previously reported, the cast will be headlined by Laura Osnes as Maria Rainer, Tony Goldwyn as Captain von Trapp, Brooke Shields as Elsa Schräder, Patrick Page as Max Detweiler, and Stephanie Blythe as The Mother Abbess.

New to the cast are Mary Michael Patterson as Liesl von Trapp, Nick Spangler as Rolf Gruber, Cotter Smith as Herr Zeller, Reed Birney as Admiral von Schreiber, and Joel Hatch as Franz, The Butler.

In addition, making a special appearance late in Act II are three of the actors who played the von Trapp children in the beloved 1965 movie version of The Sound of Music: Nicholas Hammond (the film’s Friedrich), Heather Menzies (the film’s Louisa), and Kym Karath (the film’s Gretl), joining the previously announced Daniel Truhitte (the film’s Rolf), who plays Baron Elberfeld.

The cast also features Joy Hermalyn (Sister Berthe), Linda Mugleston (Sister Margaretta), Faith Sherman (Sister Sophia), and Veanne Cox (Frau Schmidt). The roles of the von Trapp children include members of the Brooklyn Youth Chorus: Jake Montagnino as Friedrich, Olivia Knutsen as Louisa, Jacob Sutton as Kurt, Grace Luckett as Brigitta, Natalie Hawkins as Marta, and Charlotte Knutsen as Gretl.

Musical Director Rob Fisher will conduct the Orchestra of St. Luke’s and the Women of the Mansfield University Concert Choir will be under the direction of Peggy Dettwiler. Joshua Bergasse choreographs the concert with the production team including Wendall K. Harrington (video and projections designer), Alan Adelman (lighting consultant), Nevin Steinberg (sound designer), Paul Tazewell (costume consultant), and John Lee Beatty (scenic consultant).
