Programming has been announced for the 2012 Edinburgh International Festival, to run August 9-September 2.

Among the theater highlights are the TR Warszawa production of 2008: Macbeth, directed and adapted from Shakespeare’s original by Grzegorz Jarzyna; Suzuki Company of Toga’s Waiting for Orestes: Electra, directed and designed by Tadashi Suzuki; Barry McGovern starring in Samuel Beckett’s Watt, directed by Tom Creed; Silviu Purc?rete’s world premiere version of Gulliver’s Travels; Théâtre du Soleil’s Les Naufragés du Fol Espoir (Aurores), directed by Ariane Mnouchkine; and the TEAM’s Primer for a Failed Superpower.

The festival will also showcase numerous opera and dance events, as well as the unique event, NVA’s Speed of Light, described as “a remarkable fusion of innovative public art and sporting endeavour” in which involves hundreds of runners in specially commissioned light suits ascending the summit of Edinburgh’s Arthur’s Seat, the iconic mountain in the heart of the city.
