NBC’s Smash to Return to the Airwaves on February 5

The Broadway-infused NBC drama Smash is officially returning to the airwaves beginning on Tuesday, February 5, 2013, according to TVLine.

The first episode of the series’ second season will be a two-hour special, airing from 9-11pm. It will then move to the 10pm slot beginning on February 12.

The musical drama, which features songs by Tony Award winners Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, stars Debra Messing and Christian Borle as a Broadway songwriting team, Anjelica Huston as a high-powered producer, Jack Davenport as a temperamental British director, Megan Hilty and Katharine McPhee as two young actresses who are both friends and rivals, and Leslie Odom, Jr. as a Broadway chorus boy (and Borle’s love interest).

Among the many actors set to appear this season are Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson, who will be featured in the season premiere, Andy Mientus, Krysta Rodriguez, Jeremy Jordan, Sean Hayes, Jesse L. Martin, Nikki Blonsky, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Daniel Sunjata, Wesley Taylor, Savannah Wise, Daphne Rubin-Vega, and Bernadette Peters.
