Bare: A Pop Opera Sets Plans for Film Adaptation

Bare: A Pop Opera is in the process of being adapted for the big screen after treading stages around the world for nearly two decades. Tony-nominated producers Hillary Butorac Weaver and Janet Billig Rich are attached to the project, with its original director, Tony nominee Kristin Hanggi (Rock of Ages), taking the helm and adapting the screenplay.
The rock musical features a book by Jon Hartmere, Jr. and Damon Intrabartolo, lyrics by Hartmere, and music by Intrabartolo. The story focuses on two gay high school students and their struggles at their private Catholic boarding school.
Bare debuted at the Hudson Theatre in Los Angeles, running from October 2000-February 2001, and came to New York in 2004 with an off-Broadway production at the American Theatre of Actors. The show has gone on to run in dozens of cities including Toronto, Sydney, San Diego, the Philippines, Cardiff, Seoul, Chicago, Brighton, and Austin, with a revival in Los Angeles in 2013. Bare the Musical, a new adaptation of Bare: A Pop Opera, ran off-Broadway at New World Stages in 2012.
