Tony Award winner Jefferson Mays will star in the world premiere musical comedy, A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder at Hartford Stage. Darko Tresnjak will direct the production, which will run October 11-November 4.

Based on the novel Israel Rank by Roy Horniman, the show features a book by Robert L. Freedman, music by Steven Lutvak and lyrics by Freedman and Lutvak. It is set in Edwardian England, and traces the brilliant trajectory of Monty Navarro — a charmer, seducer and avenger — on his quest for recognition and family fortune.

Hartford Stage has also announced additional programming for the 2012-2013 season, which will include Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler, directed by Jennifer Tarver (August 30 – September 23); the 15th Anniversary Production of Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol – A Ghost Story of Christmas (November 23 – December 29); Daniel Beaty’s new play, Breath & Imagination-The Story of Roland Hayes, directed by Tresnjak (January 10 – February 3); Beth Henly’s 1990 comedy, Abundance, directed by Jenn Thompson (April 4 – 28); and Kate MacCluggage starring in Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, directed by Tresnjak (May 16 – June 16).

The season will include one additional show, to be announced.
