MTV to Search for Legally Blonde's Next Elle Woods

By: Brian Scott Lipton · Jan 24, 2008  · New York

MTV will create a television program Legally Blonde: The Search for the New Elle Woods to find a replacement for the musical's current lead, Laura Bell Bundy. Auditions will be held in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Orlando, and Nashville. MTV previously aired Legally Blonde in its entirety.

Based on the film of the same name, Legally Blonde opened on Broadway on Sunday, April 29, 2007 and received seven Tony Award nominations. The show is directed and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell, with a score by Laurence O'Keefe and Nell Benjamin and a book by Heather Hach.

The show will also launch a national tour this fall. In addition to Bundy, the Broadway production stars Christian Borle, Orfeh, Richard H. Blake, Kate Shindle, Nikki Snelson, and Michael Rupert. All of the stars have renewed their contracts through June 2008.
