"Fiddler on the Roof" Joins Operation Backpack

The volunteer project provides school supplies to New York City’s homeless students.

The cast of Fiddler on the Roof recently volunteered their time to Operation Backpack, a community service of Volunteers of America-Greater New York that provides homeless children living in New York City shelters with backpacks filled with school supplies.

Over the past 12 years, Operation Backpack has provided more than 120,000 backpacks to homeless students, and this year alone, will contribute 18,000 backpacks to the cause. Championed by Jessica Hecht (Fiddler's Golde), the musical's cast donated 30 backpacks, as well as $1,400 to support the effort. Take a look as the company poses with their backpacks on the Broadway Theatre stage.
