The Broadway revival of Evita, at the Marquis Theatre will resume preview performances tonight, March 14 at 8pm.

As previously reported, the Tuesday, March 13 performance was canceled due to the theater’s deluge system — in place to extinguish fires — going off even though there was no fire at the theater. The crew has worked through the night to clean up, repair and replace items as needed. However, to ensure all systems have been effectively re-installed, the company will rehearse on stage this afternoon and there will be no 2pm matinee performance today.

Evita tells the story of Argentina’s Eva Peron, who used her beauty and charisma to rise meteorically from the slums of Argentina to the presidential mansion as First Lady. She won international acclaim and adoration from her own people as a champion of the poor, while glamour, power and greed made her the world’s first major political celebrity.

Michael Grandage directs the production, which stars Ricky Martin as Che, Elena Roger as Eva, and Michael Cerveris as Juan Perón. The cast also features Max Von Essen as Magaldi, Rachel Potter as Mistress, and Christina DeCicco, who is the alternate/standby for Eva Peron.

Patrons with tickets to yesterday’s preview performance or today’s matinee should return to point-of-purchase for refund or exchange.
