The new Broadway musical Catch Me If You Can will now begin previews at the Neil Simon Theatre on March 11 (rather than the previously reported March 7), with the opening date remaining April 10. Jack O’Brien will direct, with choreography by Jerry Mitchell.

According to press notes, the postponement “is necessary to accommodate the production’s load in and technical rehearsal schedule which had been compressed due to the extension of the previous tenant at The Neil Simon Theatre, RAIN – A Tribute To The Beatles on Broadway, and then delayed by the record snowfall that has occurred in New York City.”

Based on the 2002 Steven Spielberg film of the same name, Catch Me If You Can features a book by Terrence McNally, music by Marc Shaiman, and lyrics by Shaiman and Scott Wittman.

The musical centers on Frank Abagnale, Jr., a world-class con artist who is pursued by straight-arrow FBI agent Carl Hanratty. It was first seen at Seattle’s 5th Avenue Theatre for a limited engagement during the summer of 2009. All four lead actors are reprising their roles from that engagement.

The musical will star Tony Award winner Norbert Leo Butz as Carl Hanratty, Aaron Tveit as Frank Abagnale, Jr., Tom Wopat as Frank Abagnale, Sr. , and Kerry Butler as Brenda Strong. The cast will also feature Rachel De Benedet as Paula Abagnale, Linda Hart as Carol Strong, Nick Wyman as Roger Strong, along with Joe Cassidy, Timothy McCuen Piggee, Brandon Wardell, Sara Andreas, Alex Ellis, Will Erat, Jennifer Frankel, Lisa Gajda, Bob Gaynor, Kearran Giovanni, Nick Kenkel, Grasan Kingsberry, Michael X. Martin, Aleks Pevec, Kristin Piro, Rachelle Rak, Joe Aaron Reid, Angie Schworer, Sabrina Sloan, Sarrah Strimel, Charlie Sutton, Katie Webber and Candice Marie Woods.

The design team will include David Rockwell (set), William Ivey Long (costumes), Kenneth Posner (lighting), and Steve Kennedy (sound).
