Gloucester Stage will present The Women of Spoon River starring Lee Meriwether, at Gloucester Stage on Saturday, June 2 at 8pm; Sunday, June 3 at 3pm and Monday, June 4 at 8pm.

Published in 1915, Edgar Lee Masters’ Spoon River Anthology is a collection of epitaph poems describing the lives of the inhabitants of the fictional small town of Spoon River, named after the real Spoon River that ran – and still runs near Masters’ home town in Illinois. The collection includes two hundred and twelve separate characters providing accounts of their lives, losses and deaths.

Meriwether played Betty in the CBS series, Barnaby Jones, for which she was nominated for both the Golden Globe and the Emmy. She has also had starring or recurring roles in nine different series.

Gloucester Stage will also be presenting Songs of the Roaring Twenties!, a musical revue set in a speakeasy bar and featuring songs of the 1920’s. It will be performed by Cape Ann’s Share the Music singers under the direction of Wendy Betts on Saturday, April 14 at 7pm and Sunday, April 15 at 3pm.
