Jeremy Jordan, Rebecca Naomi Jones, and More to Perform in Kennedy Center Concert Presentation of Children of Eden
''Wicked'' composer Stephen Schwartz brings one of his lesser-known musicals to Washington, D.C.
The Kennedy Center will offer a one-night-only concert presentation of Oscar and Grammy Award winner Stephen Schwartz's Children of Eden on May 19. The show's star-studded Broadway cast is set to include Ron Bohmer (A Little Night Music), Ashley Brown (Mary Poppins), Rebecca Naomi Jones (American Idiot), and Tony nominee Jeremy Jordan (Newsies, NBC's Smash), accompanied by the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra. The concert will be directed and choreographed by Tony nominee Marcia Milgrom Dodge. Additional cast members will be announced at a later date.
Children of Eden, featuring music and lyrics by Schwartz (Wicked) and a book by Tony winner John Caird (Les Misérables), is loosely based on the biblical story of Genesis, examining the age-old conflict between parents and children. The musical's original production opened at the Prince Edward Theatre on London's West End in 1991 and was later revived at New Jersey's Paper Mill Playhouse in 1997. While it has never received an off-Broadway or Broadway production, Children of Eden has become one of Musical Theater International's most frequently licensed properties.
