About This Show

On, in and around the massive, haunted stone ruins, audience members will join the Macbeths, witches and ghosts in Shakespeare’s fast-paced, bloody tragedy. Audiences and actors will travel throughout the Ruins for an exciting, theatrical adventure. Instead of building a stage and seating the audience in a conventional way, the play will be performed in various locations in and around the Ruins. In this way, the Ruins themselves become the stage.Audiences will begin their adventure outside the gates of the PFI, where they will be greeted by a bloody soldier who will lead them up towards the Ruins as he relates Macbeth’s latest victory. From there audiences will journey with Macbeth and company through the Ruins watching scenes as they unfold in the dark, foreboding chambers, fields and forbidding corners of the old stone school. One moment the audience will be seated, and at the next they’ll be on foot with the actors, peeking through a window, or peering up to a balcony.

The play will run 90 minutes, and while there will be opportunities to sit, much of the time the audience will be mobile, so patrons are encouraged to wear comfortable walking shoes and dress in layers appropriate to the weather.
