Summer of ’42

About the Show

Based on the novel and Oscar-nominated motion picture by Herman Raucher, with book by Hunter Foster and music and lyrics by David Kirshenbaum, Summer of ’42 captures the spirit of America on the brink of full-scale war through the lives of three fifteen-year-old boys who share a summer that they will never forget. Hermie, Oscy and Benjie are accustomed to spending the summer together, but this year seems different somehow. Girls have replaced baseball and comic books, and Hermie becomes infatuated with a war-bride awaiting word from her husband who is stationed overseas. After the three friends find their way through a few adolescent misadventures, Hermie learns an important lesson about life, love and the scope of human compassion.

Summer of ’42 stars Broadway’s Rachel York as Dorothy, a forlorn war-bride eagerly awaiting word from her husband.
