Directed by City Theatre Artistic Director Tracy Brigden, this brand-new production of The Good Body is the first to feature three actresses. Originally performed solo by creator Eve Ensler, The Good Body explores the cultures of beauty, food and desire through the eyes of women around the world. We meet famous women, like Cosmo editor Helen Gurley Brown and movie star Isabella Rossellini, and anonymous women whose stories are equally fascinating: Bernice, a teenager who loves to go “chunky-dunking” at her fat camp; Carmen, who couldn’t lose weight until she lost her mother; Tiffany, a model whose body has been shaped by her plastic surgeon husband; Dana, a lesbian with a thing for metal in flesh; Carol, who had her vagina tightened. There are also third world women whose insights about body image are illuminating.
The stories of these gutsy girls are held together by the intimate observations of the narrator, whose obsession with her waistline produces a little belly-aching and a lot of belly laughs.
In addition to the regular schedule, there is a 1:00 PM matinee on Wednesday, October 25.
