New York City
Syncopation
In Allan Knee’s Syncopation, there is no such thing as an impossible dream. In 1911 New York City, a middle-aged Jewish immigrant meat packer dreams of a career as a ballroom dancer. He rents a warehouse as his studio and places an ad. Weeks go by before an unlikely young woman climbs the stairs in reply. Together they form a friendship and then a romance against the backdrop of the tumultuous events of the world around them. With dreams of dancing stars Irene and Vernon Castle spinning through their heads, they discover a new syncopation in their life, breaking free of the predictable rhythms of what the world expects from them.
