About This Show

Iranian-born, NY-based vocalist Sussan Deyhim performs Vocadelics, a special solo program of experimental and film music featuring live vocals and backing tracks, originally conceived in collaboration with Bobby McFerrin, which has been performed to great acclaim at theaters and museums worldwide. Born in Teheran to an old aristocratic family, Deyhim left Iran at the revolution to pursue a career that has spanned the gamut of dance with the Bejart Ballet, to composing for motion pictures, to becoming a major force in World music, creating a unique synthesis that marries the strains of traditional Middle Eastern music with cutting edge technology and very progressive sensibility. Deyhim has recorded with some of the most cutting edge musical minds of the day, such as Ornette Coleman, Peter Gabriel, and Bill Laswell, and recently served as star and co-composer of the multi-media theatrical production of Logic of the Birds, a collaboration with fellow New York-based Iranian filmmaker Shirin Neshat and others. Deyhim’s catalogue of CD’s includes solo albums, a collaboration with Richard Horowitz, and appearances on the soundtracks of Oliver Stone’s Any Given Sunday and Adrian Lyne’s Unfaithful.
