Olu Dara is the rare performer who is most comfortable crossing genres and changing his performance format. His music ranges widely, a mixture of jazz and funk styles and of urban and rural rhythms he calls “gumbo”. Besides being a musician, Dara is a master storyteller who also regulary collaborates with playwrights and poets like August Wilson, Rita Dove and Ntozake Shange. A recording could never capture the many dimensions of Dara’s performance art and Joe’s Pub simply loves having him grace our stage with his musical chops and versatility.
