About This Show

Keen observation of the New York theatre circuit reveals that there are no
plays about anarchistic separatist junkies living low-impact lifestyles in
and around the scorching desert mesa community of northern New Mexico’s
conspiracy-filled alien homeland known simply by its residents as “The
Lesser World.” The Midwest Amalgamated Performance Corp. offers up their latest piece, we are petit neanderthals, in an earnest attempt to fill this gaping void.

Written and directed by Melissa Shimkovitz, the play focuses on the meeting of two social outcasts bound for glory. For six long years Maj Sherman, a wildly imaginative recluse with a propensity for laziness and an addiction to diet soda, has been doing everything in her power to stay awake so as not to miss an invitation to join the ranks of a highly advanced sub-Earth dwelling tribe. Herve Ramos is a rubber tramp who stumbles upon Maj’s desolate tin can compound while trying to find customers for his newest venture in homemade medicine. Granting Maj full authority to be the boss of him, Herve promises to do whatever she says in return for permanent residency on her property and a chance at a new life in a different dimension. Careful not to get in the way of their own personal success, Maj and Herve are resolved to do nothing but wait for an invitation. Together.
