About This Show

Studio 42 presents a workshop production of Layna Fisher’s Truncated. Based, in part, on interviews and research gathered over 2½ years, the play follows a New York City journalist as he travels to Sierra Leone to investigate the unchecked corruption inherent in the pursuit of the world’s most perfect currency.

In the world’s poorest country, the UN’s largest peacekeeping force is suppressing a bloody civil war over the earth’s most precious stones. Layna Fisher, portraying over twenty characters, combines vivid storytelling with a surprising sense of humor as she explores Sierra Leone’s troubled past, uncertain future and this small country’s impact on the War on Terror. Layna’s unique performance style brings a thrilling intimacy to the accounts of the soldiers, children, mothers, aid workers, rebels and journalists who have found themselves mired in the dirty business of the diamond trade.
