The Persians is the oldest surviving play in the history of Theater. It was produced in 472 BC. This play is also the only extant Greek tragedy based on contemporary events. A soldier in the battle, Aeschylus wrote the play following the battle of Salamis. This tragedy focuses on the aftermath of this historic battle, a major turning point in the Greco-Persian Wars. Performed in ancient and modern Greek with English supertitles.
