About This Show

The 11am show on Wednesday, January 28 has been cancelled.

The Talking Band and The Flea Theater present the World Premiere of The Parrot. With book and lyrics by Paul Zimet (who also directs) and music by Ellen Maddow, The Parrot, is a new musical inspired by an old Italian folktale. This tale of a city kid who decides that she doesn’t really need that prince combines music, masks and puppetry to create a sophisticated and unique theatrical experience. The Parrot is the centerpiece of The Flea’s GIVE US YOUR CHILDREN Festival of inspiring theater, dance and performance.

In a world of computers, cell phones and reality TV, The Parrot reminds us of the power of storytelling and fantasy. Though Bela is a totally plugged-in contemporary teen, she quickly falls under the spell of The Parrot, whose tale turns her familiar world into something magic; the furniture becomes musical instruments, the refrigerator hums characters to life and Bela is transformed into Princess Bellafiore. What Bela learns from the Parrot’s tales is the power of her imagination.

Not appropriate for children under four.
