About This Show

Robert Een returns to The Club LaMaMa for four performances with his newest ensemble, The Musical Giants of Manhattan. The evening will be the third installment of “Live from the East Village,” a New Music series in The Club which was conceived and curated by Nicky Paraiso, the “cultural minister” of The Club.

Robert Een is an acclaimed composer, cellist and singer. The recipient of a 2000 “Bessie Award” for sustained achievement, Een has performed his music on stages and in unusual venues throughout the world, including the Buddhist caves of Ellora, India; the Shinto shrine in Tsurugi, Japan; a theater above the Arctic circle in Norway; and New York venues including Lincoln Center, The Whitney Museum and the Knitting Factory. The Village Voice has called his work “Joyous…a roller coaster of postminimal-jazz energy that could engage any audience.”

The Musical Giants of Manhattan features some of New York¹s finest musicians, including hand drum virtuoso Hearn Gadbois, guitarist John Guth, saxophonist Michael Zsoldas, vocalists Tim Hall, Nina Mankin, Toby Newman and Sara Robledo, and special surprise guests, all led by Robert Een.
