About This Show

HERE Arts Center presents the first production of their 2004-2005 Season – Orpheus, an Alt-rock multi-media experience conceived by Juliet Chia, Kristin Marting & David Morris; text by Stephanie Fleischmann; and music by Nikos Brisco.

In Orpheus, millions weep as the fairy tale wedding of Alt-rock legend, Orpheus, and his bride, ornithologist Eurydice, is brought to a tragic conclusion with the metallic thud of a yellow cab. Withering over the loss of his true love, Orpheus goes into seclusion before resurfacing at the new underground nightspot, Asphodel, presided over by chanteuse Persephone, a trio of burlesque Sirens, and an eclectic band. Orpheus uses his musical skill to find Euridice and win the right to bring her back to life. Torn by grief, Orpheus hesitates and loses everything. Don’t miss this 21st-century re-creation of the Orpheus myth set in a night club–with dynamic songs (a hybrid of Balkan, Greek, Texan, and rock musical forms), poetic text, captivating visuals and arresting choreography.
