About This Show

The Flea Theater presents the first 2007 concert of its Music With A View series, a free family-friendly music performance featuring new sounds and lively talk. The music series is devoted to the discovery of new, fresh sound created and performed by contemporary musicians. It is curated by Kathleen Supové. Three exciting composers will present pieces that make use of the latest developments in electronic and cyber technology.

Nick Didkovsky, using his own self-designed software to create, notate, and play original music, invites the audience to choose the elements of the composition – instruments, pitch, syncopation – and the process will be displayed simultaneously on a big screen.

Ritsu Katsumata, an electric violin virtuoso with effects boxes and electronic gear, performs her own cutting edge music. Her composition is based on GUITAR HEROES, and is scored for violin, effects processors, and 12 TV screens.

Joshua Fried will create a hyperkinetic sound collage by changing FM radio stations with his own custom-designed steering wheel. There is never a dull instant in Joshua’s performances, and The Flea will provide the seat belts!

Following the concert, there will be a discussion with the composers, moderated by Preston Stahly.
