About This Show

Performed by Company East from Japan
Directed and choreographed by Kenji Kawarasaki

Having played Medea to sold-out houses worldwide, including the Edinburgh Festival Fringe; Adelaide Fringe Festival; Avignon Festival; and the Montreal Festival, Company EAST makes their much-anticipated American debut of the production. Medea melds delicate and intense choreography; exquisite costumes and concept stage art; and powerful acting with theatrical dialogue.

Hiroshi Jin (Hiro) is the founder of Company EAST, as well as the lead dancer and actor of the troupe in all of their productions. Beginning in the mid-90’s he always played the lead female role. Hiro started dancing at an early age in Tokyo, continuing his studies in New York performing in musicals such as the role of Nijinsky in a provocative production. Hiro is known for his spontaneous energy and brilliant artistry.

“The fusion of traditional Noh theatre with contemporary dance, and balletic leaps with karate stances make for an electrifying performance.” — The Scotsman
