About the Show

Lydia Belatèche, Ph.D., President of the Minnesota Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of French, Instructor at Hamline University and Senior Lecturer at the University of Minnesota, will lead an engaging discussion on the origins and popularity of the musical in France and other Francophone countries. Dr. Belatèche will highlight “le siècle des révolutions” (the century of revolutions, 1789-1889) comparing Hugo’s portrayal of the lower classes to other portrayals by other well-known French authors of the 19th century. The lecture will also focus on artwork of the 19th century.
