Written by Cuban-born Nilo Cruz, Anna in the Tropics explores the life-changing powers of literature among the workers in a Cuban-American cigar factory in 1920s Florida. To reduce the tedium as they roll cigars, the employees are read Anna Karenina by a handsome “lector.” Karenina’s passions ignite yearning and betrayal among the workers mirroring the novel’s tragic events. The production is directed by Guest Artist Armando Molina.
