The Goodman Theatre presents The Clean House, by Sarah Ruhl, directed by Jessica Thebus.
Mathilda is depressed. She doesn’t want to clean, she wants to tell jokes. In Portuguese. Problem is, she’s Lane’s live-in maid. And all Lane wants is a clean house. She’s got everything else. A husband who’s a successful surgeon and her own busy career as a doctor. Or so she thinks. Until her husband finds himself inexorably drawn to one of his patients. He’s found his soulmate and moves out of Lane’s house — which, by the way, is now clean, because Lane’s sister Virginia has been cleaning it on the sly. As this wryly funny, deeply moving play reaches its crescendo, everyone finds out what’s really important in life.
