Young Louisa Gradgrind, educated in her father’s utilitarian philosophy but longing for more, enters the world of Coketown, a city fueled by greed and industry, where all her preconceptions will be challenged. In this contemporary adaptation of the classic novel, filled with legendary characters, Charles Dickens depicts a bustling world where fact regulates humanity and where imagination is imprisoned, until hunger and desire bring this society crashing down.
