Patty Duke to Direct The Miracle Worker for Interplayers Professional Theatre

Patty Duke, who starred in both the Broadway and film versions of The Miracle Worker, will direct a production of the play at the Interplayers Professional Theatre, in Spokane, Washington, May 5-22.

William Gibson’s classic drama tells the story of determined teacher Annie Sullivan and her triumphant effort to reach deaf, blind and mute wild child, Helen Keller.

Duke made her Broadway debut as Helen Keller in The Miracle Worker and recreated her performance in the film version, earning an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Her other Broadway appearances include Isle of Children and Oklahoma!, and she was most recently seen on stage as Madame Morrible in the San Francisco company of Wicked. Duke’s many television and film credits include The Patty Duke Show, Valley of the Dolls, My Sweet Charlie, and It Takes Two.
