Ashley Brown, Robert McClure, et al. Set for La Jolla Playhouse’s Limelight: The Story of Charlie Chaplin Musical

Robert McClure and Ashley Brown will star in La Jolla Playhouse’s world premiere musical Limelight: The Story of Charlie Chaplin, featuring music and lyrics by Christopher Curtis, with book by Curtis and Thomas Meehan. Michael Unger will direct the production, which will play the Mandell Weiss Theatre, September 7-October 17.

From the gritty streets and smoky music halls of London to movie screens across the globe, Limelight goes behind the camera to show how a comic genius found soaring success and later fell from grace. McClure portrays Chaplin, with Brown as his fourth wife, Oona.

The cast will also include LJ Benet as Young Sydney, Jenn Colella as Hedda Hopper, Eddie Korbich as Karno, Janet Metz as Hannah, Brooke Sunny Moriber as Mildred, Ron Orbach as Mr. Chaplin, Roland Rusinek as Alf, Jake Schwenke as Young Charlie/Jackie, Matthew Scott as Sydney, and William Youmans as Older Charlie. The ensemble includes Aaron Acosta, Courtney Corey, Matthew Patrick Davis, Justin Michael Duval, Sara Edwards, Ben Liebert, Alyssa Marie, Jennifer Noble, Kürt Norby, Carly Nykanen, Jessica Reiner-Harris, and Kirsten Scott.

The creative team includes Bryan Perri (music director), Warren Carlyle (choreographer), Alexander Dodge (scenic designer) Linda Cho (costume designer), Paul Gallo (lighting designer), Jon Weston (sound designer), and Douglas Besterman (orchestrator).
