Michael Urie, Douglas Sills, and More to Star in Man and Superman
Gingold Theatrical Group's Project Shaw will present Man and Superman, helmed by artistic director David Staller, on Monday, July 20, at 7pm at Symphony Space‘s Leonard Nimoy Thalia Theatre.
"Since our full production of Man and Superman in 2012 at the Irish Rep, we've had so many requests for another live presentation we were inspired to bring it back to Project Shaw this season," said Staller. "It is indisputably, one of the greatest romantic comedies ever written for the stage and we will, of course, be presenting it with the vital 'Don Juan in Hell' dream scene. The cast we've assembled are a Shavian dream team."
The cast features Douglas Sills (Mendoza/The Devil), Michael Urie (Octavius Robinson), Stephen Kunken (John Tanner/Don Juan), Amelia Pedlow (Ann Whitefield/Dona Ana), Mary Beth Piel (Mrs. Whitefield), Harris Yulin (Roebuck Ramsden/The Statue), Molly Ranson (Violet Robinson), Mark Shanahan (Henry Starker), Jack Gilpin (Mr. Malone), and Hunter Canning (Hector Malone).
Man and Superman follows Jack, a confirmed bachelor, who is determined to keep clear of Ann’s matrimonial designs on him. He flees across continents and even, in the dream act of "Don Juan in Hell," to Hades for a chat with the Devil and back again to avoid entrapment. But, finally, her intelligent will is too much for him. The company will present a trimmed version of the play, created by Staller.
Project Shaw, now celebrating its 10th year, is the first company ever to present performances of every one of George Bernard Shaw's 65 plays. The season continues September 21 with a Chekhov Comedy Event; October 19 with The Doctor's Dilemma; November 23 with John Bull's Other Island; and December 21 with The Shewing-Up of Blanco Posnet.
