Bekah Brunstetter’s new play opens its Manhattan Theatre Club production tonight.

The Manhattan Theatre Club production of Bekah Brunstetter's The Cake celebrates its off-Broadway opening tonight at New York City Center — Stage I. Preview scenes from the production with the newly released clips below.

Directed by Lynne Meadow, The Cake is described as follows: "All is going well for Della. Her North Carolina bakery is legendary and she's just been cast on her favorite television baking competition. But then, her late best friend's daughter comes home from New York City to ask her to make a cake for her upcoming wedding. When Della learns that Jen's about to marry a woman, she is forced to reexamine her deeply held beliefs, as questions of morals, judgment, and family swirl around them all."

Debra Jo Rupp reprises the role of Della, which she originated at the Echo Theater in LA, and played at Barrington Stage Company and Geffen Playhouse. She is joined by Marinda Anderson, Genevieve Angelson, and Dan Daily.

The creative team includes John Lee Beatty (scenic design), Tom Broecker (costume design), Philip S. Rosenberg (lighting design), and John Gromada (sound design and original music).
