Georgie: My Adventures With George Rose to Make New York Debut
Ed Dixon's solo play traces the life of a Broadway character.
Producers Martin Platt and David Elliott with Mary Cossette, Jamie deRoy, Richard Winkler, and Mike Blank will present the New York premiere of Georgie: My Adventures With George Rose, a new play written by and starring Ed Dixon (Sunset Boulevard, Les Misérables). Directed by Eric Schaeffer, who helmed the world premiere at the Signature Theatre in Arlington, Virginia, this past January, the play will begin performances at the Loft at the Davenport Theatre on January 25, 2017, in advance of a February 1 opening. The limited engagement will run through April 15.
Georgie: My Adventures With George Rose is a one-act, solo play that chronicles Dixon's 20-year friendship with George Rose. A two-time Tony Award-winning character actor, Rose starred on Broadway and London stages alongside luminaries like Katharine Hepburn, Noël Coward, Dame Edith Evans, Richard Burton, and Laurence Olivier.
"I wrote Georgie because it's one of the largest events I've ever experienced in my life," said Ed Dixon in a statement. "It covers more than twenty years, several countries, and a passel of famous people."
The creative team for Georgie: My Adventure With George Rose includes Chris Lee (lighting design) and Megan Coutts (production stage manager).
