The world premiere of the new musical War Paint, starring Patti LuPone and Christine Ebersole, has been extended by Chicago's Goodman Theatre through August 21.

Inspired by Lindy Woodhead's book War Paint, as well as Ann Carol Grossman and Arnie Reisman's PBS documentary The Powder & the Glory, the show examines the ascent and rivalry of Helena Rubenstein and Elizabeth Arden, whose 50-year tug-of-war gave birth to an industry. LuPone will take on the role of Rubenstein, and Ebersole will play Arden, with John Dossett as Arden's husband, Tommy Lewis, and Douglas Sills as Harry Fleming, Rubeinstein's confident.

Michael Greif helms the production and Christopher Gattelli (The King and I) choreographs. The show features lyrics by Michael Korie, music by Scott Frankel, and book by Doug Wright. Joining LuPone (Gypsy), Ebersole (Grey Gardens), Dossett (Dear Evan Hansen), and Sills (Living on Love) are Mary Ernster (The House of Martin Guerre), Leslie Donna Flesner (An American in Paris), David Girolmo (The House of Martin Guerre), Joanna Glushak (A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder), Chris Hoch (Matilda The Musical), Mary Claire King (Catch Me If You Can), Steffanie Leigh (Gigi), Erik Liberman (The Hunchback of Notre Dame), Barbara Marineau (A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder), Stephanie Jae Park (The King and I), and Angel Reda (Chicago).

The production's creative team includes David Korins (set design), Catherine Zuber (costume design), Kenneth Posner (lighting design) and Brian Ronan (sound design), as well as Bruce Coughlin (orchestrations), and Lawrence Yurman (music director).
