Walnut Street Theatre has announced that its 16th Annual Live and Silent Auction will be the Official Red Ryder Carbine Action Auction. The event will take place on October 30 at the theater. The silent auction will begin at 6pm, followed by a live auction at 8pm.

The evening will feature "triple-dog-dares" to bid on items including luxury vacations, premium seating at Philadelphia sporting events, and fine-dining gift certificates, with proceeds benefiting the Walnut’s Education Department. Guests will also enjoy a special preview performance by cast members of Walnut Street Theatre’s production of A Christmas Carol.

Walnut’s Education Department's programs include the Touring Outreach Company; the Adopt-a-School program, a multiyear partnership with two inner-city Philadelphia schools that integrates dramatic techniques into classroom curriculums as an engaging approach to effectively reach all students; the Professional Apprentice program, which provides hands-on training for young theater professionals; and the Walnut Street Theatre School, which offers classes for children, teens and adults year-round.

Featuring music and lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul and a book by Joseph Robinette, A Christmas Story is based on the classic 1983 movie of the same name. The plot follows Ralphie, who wants only one thing for Christmas: An Official Red Ryder Carbine-Action 200-shot Range Model Air Rifle. The production will run November 10-January 10 on Walnut Street Theatre's Mainstage.
