Principal casting has been announced for a revival of The Wiz, to run June 10-18 at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre, before playing June 24 – July 16 at the West Yorkshire Playhouse. Josette Bushell-Mingo will direct the production, which will have choreography by Paul J Medford and musical direction by Warren Wills.
With music and lyrics by Charlie Smalls and a book by William F. Brown, The Wiz is a modern musical retelling of the classic The Wizard of Oz
The company will feature X Factor star Treyc Cohen as Dorothy, along with Allyson Ava-Brown as Glinda, Melanie La Barrie as Aunt Em, Horace Oliver as The Tinman, Wayne Robinson as The Scarecrow, Clive Rowe as The Lion and Peter Straker as The Wizard.
The creative team will include Rosa Maggiora (production design), Philip Gladwell (lighting design), Ed Clarke (sound design), and Mic Pool (projection design).
