The Pulitzer Prize- and Tony-winning actor and playwright Tracy Letts (Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, August: Osage County) is coming back to Broadway this season. Letts’ play Killer Joe will have its Broadway premiere under the direction of Tony winner Pam MacKinnon, who directed Letts in the 2012 revival of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
Killer Joe is the story of a young man whose life is in danger because of his debts and who attempts to collect on his evil mother’s insurance by putting a hit out on her. The play had its world premiere at NEXT Theatre in Illinois in 1993. It premiered in New York at Soho Playhouse off-Broadway in 1998. A film version of the play starring Matthew McConaughey was produced in 2011.
