Tonya Pinkins will depart the Classic Stage Company production of Mother Courage and Her Children, in which she is currently starring. Pinkins will leave the production, which is scheduled to run through January 24, on January 5. The show's scheduled January 7 opening will be postponed while the company seeks a replacement.

Pinkins reportedly told The New York Times via email that she had drafted a statement regarding her reasons for leaving the production but that her lawyer discouraged her from publishing it.

Classic Stage Company's staging of Bertolt Brecht's Mother Courage and Her Children is directed by Brian Kulick and features original music by Tony Award winner Duncan Sheik. In the play, Mother Courage follows one luckless army after another across a war-torn world in her canteen wagon, which she'll do anything to hang on to.

The cast of Mother Courage and Her Children also includes Joshua Boone, Curtiss Cook Jr., Jamil A. C. Mangan, Kevin Mambo, Jacob Ming-Trent, Geoffrey Owens, Michael Potts, Deandre Sevon, Mirirai Sithole and Zenzi Williams. Set design is by Tony Straiges, costume design by Toni-Leslie James, lighting design by Justin Townsend, and sound design by Matt Stine.

Tonya Pinkins is a Tony and Drama Desk Award winner for Jelly's Last Jam. Most recently, she has appeared on Broadway in Caroline, or Change, Radio Golf, A Time to Kill, and Holler If Ya Hear Me.
